White Oak Crib

I started by making the bottom platform out of solid 1.5 inch white oak (complete overkill), with 2 inch thick rectangular legs. After calculating all of the distances for the slats, I cut 44 of them out, cut domino holes at each end, and rounded all the edges. After each of the 4 main panels were glued up, I test fit the whole thing and then used threaded inserts and countersunk hex bolts to connect everything together so that it could easily be taken apart and moved (cribs don’t fit through doorways and this one weighs hundreds of pounds assembled).

I experimented with a couple of Rubio aging products trying to get a weathered gray look, which were very cool, but we ultimately decided to go with a more natural tone with Monocoat in Smoke.

It’s a pretty simple design but still one of my favorites so far. Feels pretty timeless and polished to me. Maddy approves!
