My name is Scott and Sunset Woodshop is my passion project. I was born and raised in San Diego and grew up learning woodworking—and a general love for building things—from my dad.

After 10 years building software and product management teams in technology startups, I decided to take a little break. We had just bought a new house, so I jumped at the opportunity to dive back into woodworking to renovate and furnish our house. My dad and I built a bar, then a coffee table, then a console table. Then I did a built-in entryway by our backdoor and dabbled with some wall art.

When my wife got pregnant, I decided that every piece of furniture in our daughter’s nursery would be custom and handmade. I built a crib, dresser/changing table, bookshelf, side table, name art, and decorative tree shelf.

As I posted some of my projects on social media, friends and family (and one or two strangers) started to reach out to ask about custom work, and eventually I decided I would love to start saying “yes.”

Everything I do is built custom and by hand in my garage shop in Point Loma / Ocean Beach. My favorite projects are those that are completely new and different from anything I’ve done before, but I’d also be happy to do something inspired by my past portfolio.
